Grant Holt Will Come Good for Norwich City This Season: A Fan’s Opinion

Norwich City's principal striker has made his usual start to the new season. For those that do not follow his career intimately that means a slow one. This has caused those with short memories to doubt his ability to score goals at Premier League level. However, this level of scepticism is nothing new to Grant Holt. The striker has previously faced questions after slow starts last season in the Premier League and in the Championship the season before last. So, the message for Norwich fans is to be patient with the big man. He scored 15 top-flight goals last season and extended his contract over the summer. Offering Grant the extra year to his contract was a major summer talking point, alongside the decision Paul Lambert made to move to Aston Villa. But the player fully deserves that level of loyalty based on the performances he has put on during the last few seasons. His goals have played a significant role in getting to the Premier League, and keeping Norwich there last season. It was clear from the moment that Chris Hughton came in the door that he valued Holt extremely highly. Getting the contract situation resolved was one of his major priorities, alongside strengthening the squad further. Make no mistake that irrespective of the transfer fee; the loss of the striker would have been a huge blow. This is both in the sense of his footballing ability and his leadership qualities within the squad as a whole. There is no reason to think that the striker will not have a similar season to the one he had last year. Scoring another 15 Premier League goals will be a tough ask, but Grant is certainly capable of delivering. In the eyes of Chris Hughton, the striker can carry on performing and scoring goals for the next three seasons including the current one. Therefore, Norwich fans must trust in the manager's decision-making ability, and be confident that their principal striker will come good again.
